Flash +
Ignite. Even if the enemy is outside Q range, Flash in to silence first—they'll have a hard time responding. Only commit if you have enough HP to secure the kill with your ult.
Tryndamere doesn't die immediately when his ult is up. You need HP to survive during that time. That's why in the second game, Meadow Hunter bought
Frozen Mallet first, then planned
Infinity Edge.

Meadow Hunter's Classic Top Garen: 3 Doran's Atma's and Armor Pen Build
Meadow Hunter's classic top
Garen guide. It introduces two builds: a sustain build with 3 Doran's and Atma's, and a kill-oriented armor pen build.
Freeze the Lane, Kill with Flash-Q
Early on, freeze the lane and when the enemy comes to CS, trade briefly with auto-Q. If you see the enemy jungler, you can play more aggressively. Once you've chunked them enough, use
Flash-Q to silence and finish with your ultimate.
There's no need to push or dive immediately after getting a kill. Maintaining the freeze to deny CS is enough to create a lead.
Summoner Spells
Runes
9
Mark of Attack Damage / 9
Seal of Armor / 9
Glyph of Ability Power / 3
Quintessence of Attack Damage.
+15.75 Attack Damage, +9 Armor, +10.8 Ability Power. The AP from blue runes matches the AD rune page shown in the video.
Masteries: Offense 21 / Defense 9 / Utility 0
The following is an alternative build based on the video, but it differs from the old mastery tree and individual point allocations shown there.
Build A: 3 Doran's Atma's
Cloth Armor + 5 Pots, Doran's on Every Back
Start with
Cloth Armor + 5
Health Potion. This is a good opening against auto-attack-heavy enemies like
Tryndamere. On each recall, buy another
Doran's Blade until you have three total.
Doran's Blade × 3 →
Sunfire Cape →
Atma's Impaler →
Warmog's Armor
If Ahead, Atma's First
After
Sunfire Cape, go for Atma's. Combine the HP from
Warmog's Armor with the AD conversion from
Atma's Impaler for both damage and tankiness. In the video, Meadow Hunter was fed and bought Atma's first. Sell a Doran's Blade for each core component.
Boots:
Ninja Tabi. Later, consider adding
Frozen Mallet.
Build B: Brutalizer and Last Whisper
Boots + 4 Pots to Survive, Then Rush Armor Pen
Against
Gangplank, start with
Boots of Speed + 4
Health Potion. Use pots to sustain through poke and farm until your first armor pen item, avoiding ganks.
The Brutalizer →
Last Whisper. In the video this is called "Brutalizer" but the builder shows it as "Beast's Fury". Once you have both items, it's much easier to pick off squishy carries with Flash-Q.
If the enemy builds health and armor first, kill opportunities shrink. Especially against a tanky
Ryze, trying the same one-shot pattern repeatedly will be difficult.
Late Game Item Choices
If the Enemy Won't Die in One Burst, Get Frozen Mallet
If You Can Push More Damage, Grab Infinity Edge
He noted that if Tryndamere weren't present, he would have gone straight for
Infinity Edge.
Frozen Mallet isn't always the priority.
Maw of Malmortius is also an aggressive option. If you want to be tankier, swap to
Warmog's Armor +
Atma's Impaler. The late items section is just a collection of options—you don't need to buy them all.
Skills and Combos
Skill order
Max E → Q → W, put points in R at levels 6, 11, and 16. The table above is the recommended order. Target values at level 11: Q 3 / W 1 / E 5 / R 2.
Short Trades: Auto-Q
Use
Garen Q - Decisive Strike after one auto attack. Hit and back off, preparing for the next trade. When the enemy retaliates, activate
Garen W - Courage to reduce incoming damage.
For extended fights, spin with
Garen E - Judgment for damage. Be careful not to accidentally push the wave while freezing.
Kill Setup: Flash-Q, Finish with Ult
Chunk the enemy first, then use
Flash-Q to silence. Follow up with E and
Ignite if needed, then finish with
Garen R - Demacian Justice. As mentioned in the video, Q's silence duration was 1.5 seconds at the time.
When diving, silence first and pop W the moment damage comes in. Don't overcommit if you don't see the jungler or have no escape route. Against
Tryndamere, always check if his ult is still available.
Laning Phase
Play Aggressive by Freezing
Create a lane state where the enemy has to step forward for CS. Trade from a safe position with auto-Q, forcing them to lose HP every time they last hit. Even after a kill, don't rush to take the tower if you can keep the freeze.
Fight When the Enemy Jungler Is Visible
Place
Sight Ward and watch the minimap. If you don't know where the enemy jungler is, even if ahead, wait. Trade aggressively only when you see them on the other side or when gank threat is gone.
Use Bushes to Set Up the Next Wave
Don't automatically push when the enemy recalls. Maintaining the freeze means they miss CS when they return. Step into a bush to make it look like you recalled, then re-engage when they come to farm the next wave.
Matchups
Tryndamere
Against
Tryndamere, start with
Cloth Armor and pots to survive his autos. If his ult is still up, don't rush the kill. Even with the armor pen build, consider
Frozen Mallet first if you need extra HP to live through his ult duration.
Ryze
Meadow Hunter considers this a hard counter. Once
Ryze builds sustain and defense items, armor pen alone won't cut through. Don't force the same kill pattern repeatedly.
Gangplank
Against
Gangplank, start with boots and pots to survive poke. Trade with auto-Q, block his counter with W, then back off. Use bushes and wave control to create another engagement opportunity.
Squishy Carries and Supports
Once you have armor pen items, target weak enemies like
Corki or
Soraka. Rather than sticking on the frontline, look for a Flash-Q pick on a squishy target.
