Queation regarding custom builds

Edit: Solved thanks! Hi everyone, We are new here and to pokopia, my wife and I have been playing for a couple of weeks and we are hooked, love it. We can't figure out how do custom houses work, we read online that they have to be 12x11 blocks maximum, but we can't figure out why some of our builds don't count as homes, the one in the video for example (still in early stage :)) Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
