AP Maokai will only use Sapling Toss (E) to deal damage, so try to master your shield first to mitigate the damage. If Maokai goes for a tanky build, focus on using Whimsy[W] on enemy AD champion to gain the upper hand in combat as Maokai himself will not deal a lot of damage.
